LIST 58 - BURIALS - CHRIST CHURCH CASTLEREAGH

There  were  105 burials performed at Christ Church  during  this decade. There
was on average about one burial each month.

The information recorded for each burial is as follows:
               burial date
               death date
               Christian name
               family name
               age
               abode
civil status at time of death
               year and ship of arrival
               comments
               reference number

Various miscellaneous remarks in the register have been  recorded as 'end-notes'
at the bottom of the list.

The burials are listed in chronological order.

The  Rev  Henry Fulton continued his  chaplaincy  throughout  the decade as he
did indeed for the next decade as well.

Unfortunately the microfiche for the pre-1826 records only covers the period
5th August 1823 until the 28th July 1825. The Age  and Civil  Status  of the
deceased is recorded, Free or  Prisoner  as well  as  Ship  of Arrival for
prisoners,  plus  the  occasional comment  as  to  Cause of Death. Whilst this
is one  of  the  few registers  to record the date of death unfortunately the
page  is unreadable  for almost half the entries so even this  information is
missing. The minister is not recorded but is assumed to be the Rev Fulton. Most
of the basic details prior to 1823 on this  list come from the Kerrison James
Index. Most of the 'Ship of Arrival' and  'Civil Status' information has been
researched  outside  the parish register.

With  the arrival of the new printed register forms in  1826  the information
was more complete, including the fact that Rev Fulton conducted all the burials,
although the Date of Death and Ship of Arrival was no longer recorded. The year
and ship of arrival have been heavily researched outside the parish register.

For  the colonial born their year of birth and parents names  are recorded in
the ship of arrival column.

The  reference  number would direct the reader  to  the  relevant entry  in the
original source document. The numbering system  was re-initialized  in 1826 with
the introduction of the new  printed registers.

The  reference  numbers  for Christ  Church  continued  from  the previous  decade
and  run sequentially from 0030  to  0072  then restart  in 1826 with B001 until
B064 at the end of  the  decade. The numbers B020 & B021 were omitted.

To  locate an entry on this list; firstly an alphabetical  search on the name
would be made on List 52 using code "CCC" from  which the  date  of  burial  would
be  retrieved,  secondly  using  the appropriate date, the burial would then
be located on this list.
