LIST 13 - DEATHS - NAME ORDER

 
 
There were 1,820 deaths recorded during this 'decade'. 
 
The information recorded for each death is as follows:
               date
               church
               family name
               Christian name
               age
               civil status at time of death
               year and ship of arrival
               comments
 
The  deaths are listed in alphabetical order on the name  of  the deceased.  
 
The arrival status of 84% of the deceased have been found. 
 
There  were 1,327(73%) convicts or former convicts, 117(6%)  were soldiers  or  former soldiers, 
41(2%) were  seamen,  36(2%)  came free,  292(16%)  were infants or children and 9 were  of  
unknown status.
 
Of  the deaths, 1,501 come from burials recorded at  St  Phillips Sydney  and St Johns 
Parramatta. These burials are  divided  into the  two  parishes  and are listed  separately  
in  chronological order.
 
There  were  156 deaths recorded by Reginald  Wright  at  Norfolk Island.  There being no 
resident clergyman on the island none  of these are recorded in church burials registers.
 
There  were 49 hangings, with only 6 of these being  recorded  in church burial records.
 
Finally  there  were  119 deaths  collected  from  various  other sources, principally the 
Pioneer Register project, although 8  of these claimed to have been burial at St Johns.
 
Four deaths also came from the 1802 Muster where  Governor  King listed  several  deaths 
which are not otherwise recorded  in  the church registers.
