LIST 29 - DEATHS - ALPHABETICAL ORDER
There were 2,830 deaths recorded during this decade which is almost
exactly double the previous decade.
The information recorded for each death is as follows:
date
church
family name
Christian name
age
civil status at time of death
year and ship of arrival
The deaths are listed in alphabetical order on the name of the
deceased.
For the colonial born their year of birth and parents names are
recorded in the ship of arrival column.
For those deaths for which there is no corresponding burial
occasionally comments are recorded which would otherwise be found in
the burial register.
The arrival status of 86% of the deceased have been found. There were
1667 convicts or former convicts (59%), 157 were soldiers or former
soldiers (6%), 11 were seamen (1%), 107 came free (4%) and 674 were
infants or children or adolescents or colonial born adults(24%).
Finally there were 147 burials where the deceased was described
as "free" but it is uncertain whether this means came free, born
free or free by servitude (5%).
There were 102 deaths collected from the Pioneer Register Project and
other miscellaneous sources which have no corresponding burial
record. Plus a further two deaths on Norfolk Island.
There were 24 hangings, with only ten of these being recorded in
church burial records.
There was one death reported in the Sydney Gazette for convict
compositor William Bond which was not recorded in any church burial
