LIST 50 - DE FACTO RELATIONSHIPS - MALE

There were 692 de facto relationships recorded during this decade which is only
about one hundred more than for the previous decade but represents only 22% of
the marriages compared to 31% for  the previous decade.

The information recorded for each de facto relationship is as follows:
               year
               groom
                    family name
                    Christian name
                    year and ship of arrival
civil status at time of relationship
               bride
                    family name
                    Christian name
                    year and ship of arrival
civil status at time of relationship

They are listed in alphabetical order on the name of the 'groom'.

With  regard to the 'grooms', identities of 65% have been  found. There  were
337 convicts or former convicts (49%), 50  came  free (7%)  and  55  were  colonial
born (8%).  There  were  also  four soldiers and one native.

The  fourteen  males whose names are not recorded have  not  been listed.

This is the most difficult category to define and identify.

Only those unions which produced children are listed. The  unions are presumed
to have begun one year before the birth of the first recorded child.

Whilst  some of these unions were of life long duration, it  also undoubtedly
true that some extended no further than one night  of passion !

Those  couples who eventually went on to marry are excluded  from this list to
save on duplication with the marriage lists.
