LIST 33 - BURIALS - ST MATTHEWS WINDSOR
There were 335 burials performed at St Matthews during this decade.
There were on average about three burials each month.
The information recorded for each burial is as follows:
burial date
death date
Christian name
family name
age
civil status at time of death
year and ship of arrival
abode
comments
reference number
The burials are listed in chronological order.
The Rev. Robert Cartwright made very complete records of the
deceased including age at death and ship of arrival or parents
(although not the maiden name of the mother) and place of death if
not from the parish.
He commenced to record the date of death in September 1811. When Rev
John Cross took over from Rev Cartwright in January 1820 he no longer
recorded the names of parents of colonial born children.
It should be noted that quite of lot of the entries are annotated with
"not on indent". This is because the informants may not have known
with certainty the ship of arrival, which may have been decades
earlier. In the case of women it maybe because she was buried under
her married name or her maiden name which may have differed from
that recorded on the convict shipping indents.
Information in the register not recorded here is the name of the
officiating minister.
For the colonial born their year of birth and parents names are
recorded in the ship of arrival column.
The reference numbers for St Matthews Windsor continued from the
previous decade starting at 008 and run until 342 at the end of the
decade.
To locate an entry on this list; firstly an alphabetical search on
the name would be made on List 29 using code "SMW" from which the
date of burial would be retrieved, secondly using the appropriate
date, the burial would then be located on this list.
