LIST 61 - BURIALS - ST PETERS CAMPBELLTOWN

The first burial was performed at St Peters on the 6th  September 1823.  During
the remainder of the decade there were  76  burials performed.

The information recorded for each burial is as follows:
               burial date
               Christian name
               family name
               age
               abode
civil status at time of death
               year and ship of arrival
               comments
               reference number

Various miscellaneous remarks in the register have been  recorded as 'end-notes'
at the bottom of the list.

The burials are listed in chronological order.

The  Rev  Thomas  Reddall was appointed  chaplain  to  St  Peters Campbelltown
in 1822. He spent all his clerical life at St Peters until  his  death in 1838.
In 1859 his son,  Rev  Thomas  Reddall jnr., took over his fathers old parish.

Whilst  the officiating minister is not recorded before  1826  it can be assumed
that the Rev Reddall was the officiating minister. He  certainly performed all
subsequent burials for the  remainder of  the  decade with the exception of one
performed  by  Mr  John Layton, the catechist, in January 1827.

Pre 1826 the information recorded for each burial included; name, date  of burial,
date of death, age, convict or free. If still  a convict the name of ship of
arrival was recorded. If free and  in the military, the regiment and rank were
often recorded.

From  1826 the information to be recorded on the new  pre-printed forms for each
burial included; reference number, date of burial, Christian name of the
deceased, family name of the deceased, age, abode,  quality or profession and
officiating minister. The  year and  ship  of arrival have been heavily
researched  outside  the parish register.

For  the colonial born their year of birth and parents names  are recorded in
the ship of arrival column.

The  reference  number would direct the reader  to  the  relevant entry  in the
original source document. The numbering system  was re-initialized  in 1826 with
the introduction of the new  printed registers.

The reference numbers for St Peters run sequentially from 0001 to 0014, then
in 1826 are re-initialized to B001 and run to B063  at the end of the decade.

To  locate an entry on this list; firstly an alphabetical  search on the name
would be made on List 52 using code "SPC" from  which the  date  of  burial  would
be  retrieved,  secondly  using  the appropriate date, the burial would then
be located on this list.
