The births are listed primarily in alphabetical order on the name of the mother
and then secondly in chronological order on the date of birth for family groups.
Where the mother's surname has a second name separated by a slash, the
surname after the slash is her married name. In the case of multiple marriages
the surname refers to her latest marriage.
The date of death is an complimentary piece of information derived from
personal research. In some instances the date of death is unknown but the year
of departure is recorded, becoming 'dead' to the colony as it were.
With regard to the mothers, the identities of 87% have been found. There
were 24% convicts or former convicts, 31% came free and 32% colonial born.
With regard to the children 21% were illegitimate.
There are 148 duplicate and 3 triplicate entries on the list. These have
been preserved on the list in order to be able to locate the relevant baptism
on the duplicated church register.
