LIST 15 - MARRIAGES - ST DAVIDS HOBART
The Rev Knopwood performed 63 marriages in Hobart Van Diemens Land the first
being in April 1803 between the marine Richard Sargent and Mary Standfield
before the fleet left England. The second was performed at Port Phillip Bay
on 28th November 1803 between convict Richard Garrett and Hannah Harvey. The
third was performed at Hobart on 19th March 1804 between marine William
Gangell and the widow Anne Skelthorne.
The information recorded for each marriage is as follows:

The marriages are listed in chronological order.
With regard to the grooms; the arrival details of all but two are known. Joseph
Breedon was a Lieutenant but his ship of arrival is unknown.
With regard to the brides; the arrival details of all but two are known whilst
Matilda King came free her ship of arrival is unknown.
As explained above the age at marriage is a derived figure.
It should be pointed out that in the original register the only information
recorded was; date, family name and Christian name of both bride and groom.
Information in the register but not included here includes; the officiating
minister, names of the witnesses to the marriage and who gave consent to the
marriage (the father to colonial born brides and the governor to convicts).
Interested readers are urged to consult the originals.
To locate an entry on this list; firstly an alphabetical search on the name
would be made on Lists 10 or 11 using code "SDH" from which the date of marriage
would be retrieved, secondly using the appropriate date, the marriage would
then be located on this list.
