The first marriage was performed at Scots Kirk on the 6th March 1826 by the

under the rites of the Church of Scotland.
The information recorded for each marriage is as follows:

The marriages are listed in chronological order.
The Reverend John Dunmore Lang arrived in the colony in May 1823 on board
'Brixton' as the second Presbyterian chaplain appointed to the colony (the Rev
Archibald Macarthur having arrived in Van Diemens Land in December 1822).
In June 1830 a second Presbyterian minister, Rev John McGarvie, commenced
service at Scots Kirk. During the latter half of 1830 there is some confusion
in the register between the two ministers with a loss of strict chronicity of
entries.
Unfortunately the earliest records appear to have been lost since the first
recorded marriage is on the 6th March 1826. In the early years very little
extra data was collected on each couple apart from their names and date of
marriage. Rev Lang also recorded their place of origin but for most people
this was an unhelpful "Sydney". In December 1827 he commenced to record the
ages of the happy couple.
Only the non Sydney places of origin have been recorded in the comments column.
The reference number would direct the reader to the entry in the original parish
register.
Unlike the Anglican parishes, Scots Kirk does not seem to have received the
new printed register in 1826, or at least it has not been microfilmed.
To locate an entry on this list; firstly an alphabetical search on the name
would be made on Lists 27 or 28 using code "SKS" from which the date of marriage
would be retrieved, secondly using the appropriate date, the marriage would
then be located on this list.
