LIST 32 - MARRIAGES - ST LUKES LIVERPOOL
During this decade there were 159 marriages performed at St Lukes. On average
just over one marriage per month.
The information recorded for each marriage is as follows:
date
groom
family name
Christian name
year and ship of arrival
civil status at time of marriage
age at marriage
bride
family name
Christian name
year and ship of arrival
civil status at time of marriage
age at marriage
place of abode
reference number
The marriages are listed in chronological order.
The Reverend Robert Cartwright was the presiding chaplain for the entire decade
and performed all the marriages.
In the original register the standard information recorded was; date, family
name and Christian name of both bride and groom and the officiating minister.
Information in the register but not included here includes; names of the
witnesses to the marriage. Interested readers are urged to consult the
originals.
As explained above the age at marriage is a derived figure.
The Rev Cartwright was routinely recording the places of abode of the parties
until April 1821 when he suddenly stopped only to resume in 1826.
The reference number would direct the reader to the entry in the original parish
register. In this decade the numbers run from "050" to "146" at the end of
1825. In 1826 like all the churches in the colony, St Lukes received a properly
printed register and the reference number was reset to "1" ending at "62" at
the end of the decade.
To locate an entry on this list; firstly an alphabetical search on the name
would be made on Lists 27 or 28 using code "SLL" from which the date of marriage
would be retrieved, secondly using the appropriate date, the marriage would
then be located on this list.
