2025.
Stop Press: An Additional Website for the
Fellowship of First Fleeters
Arising from a strategic planning session of
the Board of the Fellowship in 2022, an additional website is
being developed. It is a "sister site" to this
original website,
and the two sites will be interlinked. While some, but not all,
content will be migrated from this site, no existing content is
intended to be deleted from the Fellowship's overall web
presence. Accordingly, relevant Links on this website
will be redirected to the respective pages on the
"sister site".
Change always seems hard, especially if you
have been using a system for over a decade.
Why
the change? The
original website is based on HTML Computer Coding and the late
Webmaster Bob Rickards was a real whiz at this. And current
WebWeaver Kerrie Anne Christian created websites based on
HTML Computer Coding from 1996 to 2011. She has maintained
the Fellowship's HTML computer coded Original website since
2021.
However,
KerrieAnne had some serious concerns. Why was this?
Regrettably, there seem to be no others in our Fellowship
community who can create and/or maintain websites based on
HTML Computer Coding. So what would the Fellowship do when
Kerrie Anne Christian is no longer able to maintain the original
website? Would we have to pay external consultants to do this,
and of course this could be up to $200 per week,
as our Original website has had 500 pages and about 1100 files.
A big site indeed.
How could the Fellowship
"future-proof" the huge amount of content on our Original
website? The solution
was to create an
additional website for the Fellowship based on "out of the
box" Wordpress, which doesn't need HTML computer coding skills.
Globally,
Wordpress accounts for the biggest share of websites and
"content management systems - CMS". Note -our Original website
is big enough to qualify as a CMS.
Kerrie Anne Christian has created 30
Wordpress based websites since 2012. These sites include for the
South Coast Chapter of the Fellowship,
created in 2021, and for the
Black Diamond Museum in Bulli!
The Fellowship's new "sister
website", was launched at the Australian Day
Lunch Harbour Cruise by Fellowship President Gillian Doyle.
